Dock Levelers

Q: I have a question about a dock leveler system. I manage a new USDA building in Madison, WI and our loading dock has a slight issue. We have a standard 48" loading dock height however due to an 8% slope all of our large delivery trucks, and semi trailers end up being about 6"-10" lower than our dock when they're backed in. I'm wondering if you have a leveling system that would be more beneficial than others for this application. Most deliveries we have issues with require the use of a pallet jack and by our current set-up it makes using a jack impossible. Please advise...thank you

Custom Material Handling Products

Q: I mentioned to one of my co workers that I was in need of a company that I could purchase ramps from to go over the platform I need to build in a fairly well traveled walkway. He gave me a copy of one of your quotes (4173) and suggested that you might be able to help.

I will have a platform constructed of 12 inch high I beams and topped with 3/8 inch plate. It will be installed across a walk way to facilitate removal of two 4 ton heater assemblies. Since it is a fairly high traffic area I will need some kind of ramp on both sides to be able to allow carts and personnel to traverse the area safely.

I am envisioning something roughly 4 ft wide and 12 3/8 inches high minimum. Length would be dependent on how long it would need to be to enable a cart to be easily pushed up it. In addition, I would like it to have handles on the sides so it can be moved when necessary as it will be interfering with some other aspects of the project at times. Aluminum comes to mind as a material due to it's obvious lightness. For safety with carts I would also envision angle iron welded to the sides to act as bumpers for the cart wheels. I can't say how much the carts might weigh that would use the ramps but they would be limited to the weight restrictions suggested by you so I would need a recommended max weight for the ramp as well

Q: Hello. Your site has a slew of great products and I could use help on which to purchase today.

Here is the scenario. I am wheeling large arcade games around on a heavy duty dolly. The game weights 500lbs and is about the size of a larger sizes refrigerator.

We load the arcade games into a cargo van and lay it on its back. It is very difficult to get in there even with the help of two men.

We want a ramping system that is at least 12 ft in length or so (we calculated the correct length using your calculator on your site) so ONE person can just wheel it right into the cargo van, lay it down, and drive away. It should be able to hold the weight of the games (500 lbs) plus a person (220lbs+) so total weight tolerance should be about 750-800 lb.

Naturally the ramp should fold up in some manner so we can store it in the cargo van and the floor should be solid or have the ability to be made solid.

It should have the capability to hook onto the back of the cargo van so it does not move. The cargo van is the typical Ford style cargo van.

In a perfect world, we are also looking for it to be able to be placed over a short flight of steps so we can get it into the catering halls where we host events… again, it would be preferable but not a requirement… if you can however make a suggestion for a product that does this as well, I would appreciate it. The weight tolerance on this item should be about 1000 lbs.
