What happens when you place two popular concerts back to back in a major league ballpark and then have a game to play the day after?
Quite a lot actually. Last summer at a major league stadium in the Midwest two concerts were held on consecutive nights. When the dust settled, and after the stages were removed, the playing surface was in good enough shape for the umpire to say play ball…right? Wrong! Ninety percent of the outfield grass needed to be replaced and within just a couple days’ time the games would have to be resumed. A sod company specializing in major league stadiums was found and a plan was hatched to replace the sod, but crews ran into a problem…the sod required to do this job was in 2200 lb rolls that had to be removed from a trailer and transported into the stadium. There were no loading docks in or around the stadium, leaving executives to ponder how they were going to unload a number of tractor trailers quickly and efficiently.
The answer, as it turned out, was no more than thirty minutes to their north at Handi-Ramp in Libertyville IL, and within a couple hours a yard ramp was being coordinated for delivery later that same evening. No hitches in the plan could happen or the entire re-sodding program would be in jeopardy. Working with our logistics group and sales team a 6000+lb 36 foot long and 8 foot wide yard ramp was delivered right on schedule as promised, and with stadium crews working round the clock, the field was deemed playable so ball games could commence.
