Buying a yard ramp has been compared to buying a car. While there are many similarities – for example, when you order a new yard ramp you will choose the exact features, size and capacity that meet your specific needs – there are many more differences. Yard ramps are a functional purchase and as a result, the design of forklift ramps does not change from year to year; the market demand for yard ramps is not the same as the market demand for autos (practically everyone needs or owns a car but the location and ownership of yard ramps is much more limited); yard ramps do not depreciate as much as automobiles because forklift ramps do not require the same level of maintenance as cars and they are much less likely to breakdown. Steel Yard ramps will often last 10 or 20 years, while aluminum yard ramps have a shorter life.

Delivery of Yard Ramps

One of the largest costs of acquiring a yard ramp is the cost of shipping. Yard ramps are shipped on flatbed trailers and usually require a dedicated truck to make a delivery.

Flat bed trailers can transport as many as four yard ramps at a time but rarely does a customer order four yard ramps to be delivered to the same location. When a New Ramp Might be a Better Deal than a Used One

There are some cases where the total delivered cost for a new yard ramp will be less expensive than for a used forklift ramp. If you can get a good deal on a used yard ramp but that ramp is located half way across the country, your shipping costs might increase the cost of that forklift ramp by $1500 or $2000. If one of our many manufacturing facilities is near you, the shipping savings may exceed the cost savings from buying a used ramp.
